Electrical Installation

The Electrical Installation course is a practical and theory-based training program designed to equip students with essential knowledge and hands-on skills in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
This course runs for 12 months (3 terms), combining workshop training, classroom instruction, and real-world simulations. The course includes internal continuous assessments and concludes with a final external examination by NITA.

Modules Covered

Term by Term Breakdown

Term 1: Fundamentals of Electrical Installation

  • Introduction to electricity and electrical safety
  • Tools, equipment, and materials in electrical work
  • Basic electrical theory (current, voltage, resistance)
  • Series and parallel circuits
  • Cable types and their uses
  • Conduit installation (surface and concealed)
  • Simple lighting and socket circuits
  • Internal theory and practical assessment 

 

Term 2: Intermediate Electrical Skills 

  • Electrical drawing and interpretation of circuit diagrams
  • Wiring systems (loop-in system, two-way switching, etc.)
  • Installation of switches, sockets, and lighting systems
  • Installation and protection devices (MCBs, fuses, ELCBs)
  • Testing and fault diagnosis of domestic circuits
  • Introduction to earthing and bonding
  • Electrical energy and power calculations
  • Internal exams and practical assignments 

 

Term 3: Advanced Installations and Final Preparation

  • Three-phase systems basics
  • Installation of small motors and starters
  • Earthing systems and protection
  • Electrical appliance installation and servicing
  • Inspection, testing, and commissioning of installations
  • Electrical maintenance and safety regulations
  • Entrepreneurship, job readiness, and client service
  • Preparation for NITA Trade Test – Grade III
  • Final internal assessment and external NITA examination 

 

Examinations

  • Internal Examinations: Held at the end of each term to assess theoretical understanding and practical skills.
  • Final Examinations: Administered by NITA (National Industrial Training Authority) at the end of the third term.
    • Successful candidates are awarded the NITA Trade Test Certificate – Grade III
    • With work experience or additional training, graduates can progress to Grade II and Grade I levels.
