Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy

The Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy course is a practical and creative vocational program that equips students with the skills and techniques required to work in the personal care industry. The course blends hair care, beauty treatments, and salon management skills, preparing students for employment or entrepreneurship in salons, spas, hotels, and beauty clinics.
The course runs for 12 months, divided into 3 academic terms, and includes both theoretical learning and hands-on practical sessions. Students are assessed through internal examinations at each stage and sit for the NITA Trade Test (Grade III) at the end of the final term.

Age Requirement:

  • Minimum 16 years

  • Passion for beauty, grooming, and customer service
  • Good hand-eye coordination and personal grooming
  • Willingness to learn and interact with clients
  • Communication skills are an added advantage

Term-by-Term Breakdown

Term 1: Introduction to Hairdressing & Beauty

  • Introduction to the beauty and grooming industry
  • Personal hygiene, grooming, and professional ethics
  • Hair structure and scalp analysis
  • Shampooing, conditioning, and scalp treatments
  • Basic hair styling (blow drying, roller setting, plaiting)
  • Introduction to beauty treatments: manicure, pedicure, and basic facial
  • Salon tools, equipment, and hygiene
  • Internal theory and practical assessments

Term 2:Intermediate Hair and Beauty Techniques

  • Hair cutting (basic techniques for men and women)
  • Hair relaxing, perming, and texturizing
  • Hair coloring and tinting techniques
  • Advanced facial treatments and massage
  • Nail artistry and skin care treatments
  • Make-up application for different occasions
  • Health, safety, and sanitation standards
  • Internal exams and project work

Term 3: Advanced Services and Business Skills

  • Bridal hair styling and make-up
  • Hair extensions, weaving, and wig care
  • Skin analysis and beauty product knowledge
  • Salon reception duties and customer service
  • Basic entrepreneurship and salon management
  • Client consultation and record keeping
  • Preparation for NITA Trade Test (Grade III)
  • Final internal assessment and external NITA examination

Assessment and Certification

  • Internal Examinations: Conducted at the end of each term and include written exams, oral tests, and practical demonstrations.
  • External Final Examination: Conducted by NITA at the end of the 3rd term and includes practical and theoretical testing..
    • Successful candidates receive a NITA Trade Test Certificate – Grade III
    • Eligible to advance to Grade II and Grade I through further experience or training.
