Building Technology - Artisan

This course equips learners with foundational and practical skills in building construction, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, joinery, and finishing works. Trainees will gain hands-on experience in construction techniques, reading building drawings, and using tools and materials essential for the construction industry.

Training Format

Face-to-face, instructor-led sessions supported by hands-on workshop and site practice. The course includes practical projects and continuous assessments.

Minimum entry requirements

  • Minimum KCPE certificate or its equivalent (basic literacy and numeracy).
  • Basic computer literacy is an added advantage but not mandatory.
  • National ID or valid identification document.
  • Passport-sized photos for registration.
  • Personal stationery (notebooks, pens, flash disk, etc.).
  • Willingness to adhere to the institution's code of conduct and class attendance policy.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Building Technology course, learners will possess practical knowledge and skills in construction, enabling them to work as masons, carpenters, or site supervisors in the building industry.

- Interpret and use building drawings and specifications
- Perform masonry works including block laying, plastering, and rendering
- Construct concrete elements including foundations, columns, and slabs
- Perform carpentry and joinery works including formwork, roofing, and fitting
- Apply finishing techniques such as painting, tiling, and glazing
- Use building tools and equipment safely and effectively
- Understand building regulations, safety practices, and quality standards
- Estimate quantities and costs for building works
- Prepare for trade testing under NITA or KNEC certification requirements 

Graduates of this course will be awarded a nationally recognized certificate upon successful completion, examined by either NITA (Grade III–I) or KNEC (Artisan/Craft Level/Diploma), depending on the selected track.
