This course equips trainees with foundational and industry-recognized skills in hairdressing and beauty therapy as outlined in the KNEC and NITA syllabi. Learners are trained in hair care, styling, braiding, manicure, pedicure, facials, and basic salon management. The program emphasizes hygiene, customer service, and practical competence in preparation for trade tests (Grade III–I) or Artisan certification, enabling graduates to work in salons, spas, or start their own beauty enterprises

Training Format
Face-to-face, instructor-led sessions supported by hands-on computer lab practice. The course may include short projects, group work, and assessments. Blended learning (in-person + online) may be used where applicable.
Minimum entry requirements
- Minimum KCPE certificate or its equivalent (basic literacy and numeracy).
- National ID or valid identification document.
- Passport-sized photos for registration.
- Personal stationery (notebooks, pens, etc.).
- Manicure and pedicure set and sets of towels
- Willingness to adhere to the institution's code of conduct and class attendance policy.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the trainee will demonstrate practical competence in hair and beauty services in accordance with national standards and trade test requirements, ready for employment or self-employment in the beauty industry.
- Perform basic and advanced hairdressing techniques including washing, cutting, relaxing, perming, and styling
- Create and maintain various hair designs such as braiding, cornrows, weaves, and dreadlocks
- Conduct facial treatments and basic skin care routines using appropriate products and tools
- Apply professional techniques in manicure and pedicure services
- Maintain hygiene and safety standards in a salon environment as per occupational health guidelines
- Identify and use hairdressing and beauty therapy tools and equipment safely and effectively
- Deliver excellent customer service, consultation, and client care
- Prepare for and undertake NITA Grade III–I trade tests or KNEC Artisan examinations
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of salon operations and record-keeping
Promote professional ethics and grooming appropriate to the beauty industry
Graduates of this course will be awarded a nationally recognized certificate upon successful completion, examined by either NITA (Grade III–I)
