Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy

This course equips trainees with foundational and industry-recognized skills in hairdressing and beauty therapy as outlined in the NITA syllabus. Learners are trained in hair care, styling, braiding, manicure, pedicure, facials, massaging and basic salon management. The program emphasizes hygiene, customer service, and practical competence in preparation for trade tests (Grade III–I) certification, enabling graduates to work in salons, spas, or start their own beauty enterprises.

Training Format

Face-to-face, instructor-led sessions supported by hands-on. The course may include short projects, group work, and assessments. 

Minimum entry requirements

  • Minimum KCPE certificate or its equivalent (basic literacy and numeracy).
  • National ID or birth certificate
  • Passport-sized photos for registration.
  • Personal stationery (notebooks, pens, etc.).
  • Manicure and pedicure set and sets of towels
  • Head cap, gloves, apron,
  • Willingness to adhere to the institution's rules and regulations

 

Equipment available at institution

Bed massage, dryer, blow dry, hair cutting machines, UV-lamp, drill SPA seat, sink, just to mention a few.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the trainee will be prepared for employment or self-sustenance 

  • Perform basic and advanced hairdressing techniques including washing, cutting, relaxing, perming, and styling
  • Create and maintain various hair designs such as braiding, cornrows, weaves, and dreadlocks
  • Conduct facial treatments and basic skin care routines using appropriate products and tools
  • Apply professional techniques in manicure and pedicure services
  • Maintain hygiene and safety standards in a salon environment as per occupational health guidelines
  • Identify and use hairdressing and beauty therapy tools and equipment safely and effectively
  • Deliver excellent customer service, consultation, and client care
  • Prepare for and undertake NITA Grade III–I trade trades
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of salon operations and record-keeping
  • Promote professional ethics and grooming appropriate to the beauty industry

Graduates of this course will be awarded a nationally recognized certificate upon successful completion, examined by  NITA (Grade III–I) or internally awarded.
