The Painting and Decoration course is a vocational program that trains students in the skills and techniques required for professional surface preparation, painting, and decorative finishing. The course is ideal for individuals interested in the construction, interior design, and real estate industries.
The training spans 12 months, divided into 3 academic terms, combining both theoretical instruction and hands-on practical training in real-life workshop environments. Assessments include regular internal evaluations and a final external NITA examination.

Term 1: Fundamentals of Painting
- Introduction to the construction and decoration industry
- Health and safety in the workplace
- Tools, equipment, and materials used in painting
- Surface preparation techniques (cleaning, sanding, priming)
- Basic paint types and applications (oil-based, water-based, emulsion)
- Introduction to color theory
- Internal theory and practical tests
Term 2: Intermediate Skills and Decorative Techniques
- Paint mixing and color matching
- Application methods (brush, roller, spray)
- Use of primers, sealers, and undercoats
- Introduction to decorative painting techniques (textured finishes, stenciling, rag rolling)
- Minor surface repair and maintenance
- Interior and exterior painting practices
- Project-based assessments and class tests
Term 3: Advanced Finishing and Assessment
- Advanced decorative finishes (wallpapers, faux finishes, murals)
- Scaffolding, ladders, and working at heights
- Estimating materials and costing jobs
- Entrepreneurship and customer service
- Preparing for NITA Trade Test (Grade III)
- Final internal and external NITA assessment
Assessment and Certification
- Internal Assessments: Conducted at the end of each term; includes both theoretical exams and hands-on practical assignments.
- Final External Assessment: Administered by NITA at the end of the third term.
- On successful completion, students are awarded the NITA Trade Test Certificate – Grade III
- Students can later progress to Grade II and Grade I with further experience or training.
